A Plantar Wart is a virus which affects the sole of the foot. There are a few different types of warts depending on their structure. Some are solitary. Others have a mosaic pattern. Still others have one large wart surrounded by smaller ones. Generally, the wart starts in a solitary area and grows. It may create satellite lesions near the main wart. As the wart grows, it becomes painful to walk. Most people describe the sensation as a pebble in their shoe. The greatest occurrence is between 12 and 16 years old. There are many treatments. Over the counter remedies have shown some success. Yet, the success rate is low. There is no 100% cure rate with one treatment course. Treatments include acid application, laser, liquid nitrogen, phenol, debridement, and excision. Although excision has the highest cure rate, other treatments should be attempted first.
